CONVERTED BARN

AMELIA INTERIOR DESIGN has recently had the pleasure in project managing the conversion of a derelict barn to form a four bedroom home.

Built around 1862, for many years it stood empty after being used as a cattle shed.

It was crucial that we kept all the original beams intact, and that the original doorways and window openings remained as originally constructed.  This was the blueprint for our design and through working with the Architects we were able to create a truly remarkable spacious home complimentary to its surroundings.

As with any old buildings,  problem areas had to be overcome, (underpinning foundations, utilising the contours of the land etc), which meant that we were able to create several different levels of the interior thus creating unique character to the property.

The open plan living area lent itself to the wonderful countryside surrounding the property which is why we added four double sets of patio doors leading onto the garden. The far reaching views could be seen from every room and the reflecting light enhanced the spaciousness created.

We chose to stain the beams and add oak doors and flooring which complimented the soft cream walls and woodwork.

The kitchen was designed to allow family living, making use of the space available.  |The Pippi Oak cupboards and granite work surfaces add to the delightful property which we created.
